ABOUT THE MUSEUM

Park Eul Bok Embroidery Museum

Located at the foot of Baegundae Peak in Bukhansan Mountain, the Park Eul-bok Embroidery Museum opened on May 25, 2002. It was established to honor the achievements of Master Park Eul-bok (1915–2015), who contributed to the development of modern Korean embroidery by integrating the trends of traditional embroidery with modern and contemporary painting, while also contributing to various cultural and artistic fields. By exhibiting approximately 40 of the Master's works, the museum offers the public an opportunity to appreciate embroidery that was previously difficult to view, providing a chance for cultural enjoyment. It also reorganizes the history of modern and contemporary Korean embroidery. Furthermore, through various programs, the museum is expected to serve as a venue for traditional culture education for the public and as a space for cultural and artistic experiences.

The First Special Exhibition Hall on the first floor of the museum hosts spring and autumn special exhibitions, featuring diverse themes across the entire field of art. The Second Permanent Exhibition Hall on the second floor features a permanent exhibition of works by Park Eul-bok. Additionally, the space is utilized for citizens by conducting various educational programs.

The building is a residence designed in 1967 by architect Jeong In-guk (1916–1975, who served as Dean of the School of Architecture at Hongik University and President of the Korean Institute of Architects). It was converted into a museum through remodeling work by Jeong Myeong-won, also an architect (son of architect Jeong In-guk and professor of architecture at Hongik University).
